Maizuru Repatriation Memorial Museum

Maizuru is a town that is known throughout Japan along with the song "Mother on the Quay." Over 13 years since the first repatriation ship "Unzen Maru" arrived at Maizuru on October 7, 1945, it welcomed more than 660,000 repatriated people and 16,000 pillars of remains, and was very pleased. A drama of sadness was born. Now, more than 60 years after the war, there are no buildings left in memory of the past, but on the small hill overlooking the land of this retreat, the "Retirement Memorial Park" was established in 1965, and the retired pier has been restored. In addition, the "Retirement Memorial Museum" was completed in 1988, and many valuable materials on display speak to the visitors about the value of peace.
